Rita Fürstenau was born in Berlin in 1982 and studied visual communications specialized in illustration at the School of Art and Design Kassel as well as elementary education at the University Kassel. Since 2008 she has been doing her PhD in educational science specialized in elementary school research. For that she was sponsored with a scholarship during the course of lectures “Children and Childhood in the Context of Societal Modernization”.

Since 2006 Rita Fürstenau has been working as a freelance illustrator and as an arts teacher at the Children’s Art School Kassel since 2011. In 2007 she founded the indie-publisher Rotopolpress together with Lisa Röper and Michael Meier.
